Movie Renting in the Future...

We have already seen many of the smaller video stores close up and now we are seeing the bigger ones doing the same. Today many people are finding better ways to rent movies like Netflicks, RedBox, and movies on demand. Eventually Redbox will not exist because in the future everyone will be able to easily download movies right to their televisions either by On Demand or Netflix. This means DVD players will not be needed in the future. We are seeing this already starting now, but in the future everyone will browsing the list of movies on demand and you wont see any video stores around. It will be like video stores never existed.

  1. I couldn't agree more with this. Tangible media is becoming less and less prominent in our society and we will one day have all of our video and pictures come through some sort of digital device and displayed on our TVs. While I still see physical media being kept around for storage of data, it will be vastly different from what we have today in terms of storage method and compression. Goodbye 3 1/2 inch floppy, hello holographic disc storage.

  2. I love how even renting video's is becoming so much easier to do. It is a good idea, but it is just giving the Americans more of a lazier look now.

  4. Sad but true. Another victim of technology is bound to bite the dust. Funny they can change the way we view and buy movies yet there hasn't been any change or technological advances in the Disposal field. Wouldn't it be great to have a trash can that zaps ur garbage into a harmless pillar of smoke. We can dream.

  5. I like the idea of the red box only because it is cheaper than renting from blockbuster or any other video store. And it's very convenient...right there in the store you are shopping and you can return the video to any red box!!! Plus they give you free rentals too

  6. Piratebay, pirtebay, piratebay.
Bit-torrents has all but destroyed the second hand movie/games market.
Even though current international legislation is doing its best to stop it the trajectory the media market is moving will open new avenues for distribution.

  7. That seems like a really cool technology. think of all that extra space you would get and how uncluttered your entertainment area would be. good idea.

  8. I love Netflix. It seems like they might possibly be the best company on earth in my eyes. Just perfect and the best service ever.
