Video Game Consoles of the Past

Video games have been around for years, dating all the way back 1972 when the first ever console was released, The Magnavox Odyssey. Although it is nothing compared to the consoles available to us today, it was a great form of entertainment for all ages and everyone couldn't wait to get their hands on it. The Magnavox Odyssey started the video gaming world that our society has become so addicted too and many consoles have been released since then. Some consoles that have been released after the Odyssey include, The Atari, Mattel Intellivision, Vectrex, Nintendo, and many more. Below, I've posted a video that I found on Youtube of different commercials advertising for video game consoles of the past. Many of them are humorous and you may actually remember some of these videos from back when you were a youngster. Enjoy.

  1. Video games indeed have come a long way. I remember watching that jetmoto2 commercial, and I loved that game. Electronics such as that get more and more development and are becoming more and more popular. And I think we as a society have to be aware and more on our toes how much time is spent playing a favorite game.

  2. Haha. this video really takes me back. It's crazy to think of where video games where and where they are now. I can remember playing WWF games for SEGA, when i was really young, for hours. It was great...good times.

  3. Very very interesting, where did you guys find this stuff!!! I actually sat through the whole thing! The advertisments that stood out the most were for Sega, "sega does..what nintendo won't" very evil marketing techniques too shoot down the other competitor. I happen to enjoy Nintendo over Sega because of the better selection of games. Another commercial that grabbed my attention was about a boy playing game boy and daydreaming about color. The commercial claims they can experience color now on the new system!

  4. I thought Atari was the first video game console ever released. I have never heard of the Magnavox system until reading this post. Was it released in the United States?

  5. I remember playing atari when I was younger and then my mom bought us a Ninetendo. Me and my brother were not really into video games much compared to the kids now a days. We were more interested in going outside and playing wiffle ball or hide and seek! The games now I have no clue or interest in playing.

  6. This brings back memories to when I was very little! I had an older brother and sister and we got Ninetendo when I was about 2 or 3, but it was around long enough for me to play. I never got too much into Sega- only played it at my friends house. Our family favored Ninetendo.

  7. Video games are a major part of our culture today. The science behind them today basically makes for a personal gaming computer in everyone's home, which double as media centers for all of our digital entertainment. While they now allow you to connect to millions of people worldwide, I think video games have gone away from a social aspect, because you don't have those gatherings as much to play a video game in a single physical location, everyone plays from home.
