This is a short video of memories of the drive in movies. I really think they should bring these back.

  1. They really should bring these back! There used to be one not to far from here but I am pretty sure it is gone now! Although I have never actually went to one I have always wanted to. I think it would be a really great expirence.

  2. Awesome post! I miss drive in movies. I remember going to the one on 13. Now its a storage place. My dad had a station wagon we used to park it backwards and make a bed in the back of it and watch the movies. There were always double features. The last movie i remember seeing was air bud and george of the jungle. It was forever ago but i remember it like yesterday. Bring the drive in back.

  3. The drive-in theatre was the best. These post have brought back good memories. Waiting in a line of cars to pay to get in; bringing your own snacks was good, but nothing compared to getting in line and buying movie theatre popcorn. As a kid we went to both a sit down theatre and the drive-in. The drive-in was always better, you got to see more than one movie and it was cheaper. Great post.

  4. I can't say I miss them becuause I've never been to a Drive In Theatre. They do seem pretty fun with some advantages I can think of.. If your in your car you have your own volume control, climate control, and if you ahve the windows shut you should be able to talk without distracting other people and also not be annoyed by other people's conversations. Maybe I'll look around on the internet to see if there are any locally. I do know they still exist, a friend of mine who goes to Ramapo College says there is one pretty close to the campus.

  5. Going to the Drive-In movie theatre is one of my greatest and favorite memories being a child. It was so different and fun we would always go on the roof of the car and having the lay down flat so no one would see us up there. I also remember that they showed two movies witch was a great deal but I never made it through the second movie I would alwasy fall asleep and get mad at myself. I wish they had a drive in movie close to my house even if it was an hour away I would go. I remember that we had to change the radio to a station that would play the movie I always that it was cool that the car could do that.

  6. This was a great post. I had only one opportunity as a kid to watch a movie at the drive-in theater and I can still remember what I saw. The movie was the Gremlins. While I do not remember much about the actual movie I do however remember the wonderful experience I had with my family….ordering food which was delivered right to the car window, sitting back looking at all the other vehicles parked all around you etc. The actual going out to see the movie as well as the plans afterward was an experience in and of itself. Now with being able to order movies via cable or downloading them from the computer many people do not even go to the theater to see a movie much less if there were drive in still available. Many of us have gotten use to the convenience of our own living room that leaving the house seems more like a chore then something fun on a Friday night.

  7. I have personally been to a drive-in about 10 years ago near Dansville, PA. I had a great experience and it was more comfortable then any movie theater i have ever been to. The fact that you are surrounded by one or many people you choose to be with makes it more memorable. I think that you might find a more wholesome experience if they were to ever come back being that they had things for everyone of all ages. I really enjoyed your post.

  8. The good old drive-in movies, I can proudly say I was not around for them. However I did manage to go to one about ten years ago, it was somewhere in new jersey and it was an experience. Although we did not move the car when people went to get the popcorn, it still was a great time. If I recall correctly there was one in Langhorne, off of Old Lincoln highway. Kids now a days that haven't had the chance to experience a drive-in are really missing something special.

  9. COMPLETELY agree with you on the whole drive-in movie thing!! I wish they would bring these back too! How awesome would it be to just relax in your car and watch a movie. This is one thing I wish never changed with technology!

  10. I still wish I was old enough to visit one of these Drive-In movie. Seems like it would still be better than having to sit next to little kids who will not shut up and throw food at people. I like the video too!

  11. Actually these old drive in movies still exist. I was visiting a friend in Seattle last spring and of course I didn’t see a movie but I did see the big screen and a lot. She told me that there is a schedule for when they show movies on that screen. But they are still existent. Some things just never die.

  12. I wonder why drive ins aren’t around today? I guess because of economic factors but it has to much “greener” and less expensive to maintain a drive in theater than those huge mega plexs. As someone who too young to know about drive ins, it is interesting to see convergence. Some people want to go back to the days of drive-ins, some people love the Imax format, some people want the movies streaming right into their home TVs. I guess it boils down to social experience and format quality. But if anyone knows where I could see a drive-in movie without going to Seattle (before they die out) that would be great!

  13. Loved the video, but never seen a drive in movie before in my life. I may have been deprived of one of America's past times in technology! Wow good idea for a post but what is your theme again? radio and television technology? well its a good addition, seems like something we could have used for our entertainment blog. Nice work

  14. The drive in movie was an American culture. It a real shame we don't have them around like before. There are only a few around. The drive in movie was a place for children to find something to do. Now with cable and DVD movies people do not go out much. Why would they? They have the Hollywood right there in their living room.

  15. I think they should bring the drive in back. I think it's so interesting but i've never been to one. I would love to go sit in a car and watch a movie under the stars!

  16. Drive-in movies were the best way economically to watch a new movie. Time has passed though, and drive-in movies are harder to come by. In the current recession, they could return. They even had double features compared to the one movie per ticket, unless you cheated. The best part of drive ins are the fact that they can be put on just about any open field that no one minds being ruined. The worst part is that it is no good if weather conditions were not ideal. Another negative for the business owner (positive for some unscrupulous people or “bargain hunters”) is that there is no way to censor the movies to outsiders, because it is on an open field. They could prevent people from coming in, but people could watch from afar. Another negative is the limit of what can be shown for censorship reasons.

  17. I can remember going to the drive in with my family as a kid. It was such a good way to get the family together for a fun night out. I really think they should bring them back- maybe kids will start acting more like kids instead of adults. This was a great invention of the past, but unfortunately it has pretty much become a part of the past.

  18. Although I've never been to a drive in theater, I have always wanted to go. It seems like fun to be able to just kick back in your car and watch a movie. This may even increase the convertible sales since it seems like it was much more enjoyable to watch a drive in movie in that type of vehicle.

  19. I loved going to the drive-in! The last one in Bucks County was located on 611 in Warrington right where Target and Lowe's are located. My parents would often take us to the drive-in so we could experience it before it was gone. The last movies I saw there were Small Soldiers and Saving Private Ryan. It's been a while ;[
It is a shame that drive-in theaters don't exist really anywhere anymore. It was a lot of fun to go, even though I was only ten or so the last time I went!
